For The Ones Struggling

Writer: Ashleigh AtwoodAshleigh Atwood

Happy New Year!

I want to take a moment to talk with the people who are struggling with weight loss (or weight gain!).

The ones who can’t seem to make the scale budge down (or up!).

The ones who are feeling discouraged by the number when they step on that demon of a scale.

The ones who can’t help but think the scale is Bible truth and they are “failing” at their goals.

If that’s you, please read on.

The. Scale. Lies.

Now, before you tell me “I’ve been using the same scale since day one of this journey, weighing in at the same time each day, angled in the same direction, on the same floors, down to my skivvies…” blah blah blah.

It is a dirty liar.

Let me tell you how I know this!

I have gained 5 pounds over the holidays.

From my mood being lighter to my obsession with cookies (it was bad for a minute hahaha).

I fell off the wagon and gained a fiver.

I was beating myself up.

Despite the gain (by my scales standards), my clothes fit the same or even better.

I was able to fit into my wedding ring even! 🤯

It’s still too snug, my finger had muffin top hahaha

So you won’t catch me wearing it yet BUT I was able to get it all the way on!!!

Back to the topic.

Then, Saturday, I went to Torrid (I’m not sponsored, but Torrid feel free to reach out to your girl).

I had to return the work clothes I never got to wear because they were even too big when I bought them (hello BDD!).

I had $148 on a gift card after that.

Y’all.

Torrid is dangerous!!!

Especially when I now fit into the smaller sizes they usually have in stock.

I go to the clearance section and grab literally ALL the things.

I hate having to go back out and grab more, so I just grab it all in one go so I can try stuff on and then GTFO after hating everything 😂

They had a pair of their Trio jeans on clearance.

Skinny cut because you’re gonna have to peel them off my dead body Gen Z!

That and my side part 💁🏻‍♀️

The range was smaller than the size I wore into the store but whatever, they are on clearance.

I thought “I’ll just make them goal jeans.”

Much to my surprise, they fit!!!

Dare I say, they fit better than the jeans I wore into the store!!!

*Unrelated: I scored those jeans for $39.99!

Regular price was $119!!!*

If that doesn’t prove to you right there that you CANNOT trust the scale, then there’s very little hope for your continued weight loss (or gain) journey, my friend in Christ!

To reiterate the main points:

  • I have not lost the 5 pounds.

  • I have not been sticking to a proper diet.

  • I have lost another 1-2 pants sizes.

  • I can now fit into my wedding ring that I haven’t been able to wear since 2020!

Before you go thinking “this is an attack!”

This post is just as much for me as it is for you, my love 😘

I wish I could say the number on the scale doesn't dictate the rest of my day.

I wish I could say the numbers will never define me.

I wish I could be cured of my need to meet this imaginary number goal.

However, that’s not always where I am.

I needed this post just as much as you likely did.

Or maybe you didn’t and I love that for you!!!

You are goals 🙌🏻

Whether you’re on a weight loss journey or a weight gain journey, just know:

The number on the scale does not measure your worth.

It never has.

It never will.

I encourage you this week to give the scale a rest.

Unless medically instructed, allow yourself the freedom to surrender the scale for just this week.

Come back here and tell me how the world opened up for you when you did!!!

Until next time…

❤️The Aut Mama❤️
